Cameron John

Thought I should write this up like I did for Christian and Leila. It's nice to look back on as I often forget the little details of each birth!

Had a sweep at 39 weeks and was told that I was 2cm dilated and 70% effaced but baby wasn't likely to be making an appearance soon as he was still very high up.

Due date (my birthday) came and went so had another sweep at 40+3 (still 2cm dilated but head was further down). Midwife was as shocked as I was that he hadn't arrived! I still felt fine though and the weather was hot and sunny so I didn't want to end up stuck in hospital. Did get very fed up with the school mums though who kept making comments 'still here then' 'you must be fed up' etc!

Woke at 4am - 41+1 to find that I had been dreaming about pain and suddenly realised that I was in labour! Just mild period pain but on my way back to bed my waters started to trickle, along with the rest of my plug which I'd started to lose during the previous 2 weeks. Ran a and then got the TENS out. The contractions were always close together at about 3 mins apart but were bearable. As Leila's birth was quick I didn't want to take any chances so rang the labour ward for advice and they said to go in. Ian got the kids up and we jumped in the car. I'd already soaked my clean trousers so just sat on a mat in the car.

Arrived at the hospital and was 7cm dilated (5.20am). Ian took the kids home and asked the neighbour to sit with them. Midwife offered me the ball which was great but I knew the pain needed to get worse for anything to be happening so I just stood up and leaned against the bed with my TENS still on. Started with the gas and air as the contractions intensified. Ian came back in and he and the midwife helped me onto the bed. Didn't feel the urge to push as such but the pain was just intense! Stopped using the gas and started pushing, Cameron was born at 6.54am. Found the TENS a great help, just I had done with Leila. Very relieved to not need any stitches and blood loss was minimal. We were home 6 hours later which was great!

Christian and Leila are very sweet with their little brother. Leila is so helpful and Christian will help when asked!

Potty training help!

I used to catch Christian trying that one. I just watched him like a hawk (literally!) and as soon as I saw him heaving one out I would gently coax him to the potty. It took a while to convince him that this was the best thing but he soon realised that it was far more comfortable to sit down and do it. Maybe it's because they are used to just doing it in a nappy standing up in a corner somewhere?!

Good luck! Poo's always seem to be the worst to crack!

Gosh I can't remember now think it was around 8am. I didn't get to bed until 3am and I left DP still setting the scene for the morning, I placed Oliver's stocking in his room and I could hear him going through it in the morning, he thought that's all he was getting!!! Bless. He then climbed in our bed he told me father christmas had been but he then got teary eyed because he hadn't seen him. I asked him whether he liked his present in his stockings and he said yes, I couldn't keep it in any longer and said I wonder if there is anything downstairs. We recorded it all, was lovely!!
